                  Prehistoric
                  Skull (48" x 34", oil on gesso board) -
Painted in the late 1950s or early 1960s, this,
along with the Triceratops, came out of a
period when Mary spent a lot of time in natural
history museums sketching dinosaur bones. This
painting is of an imaginary creature, combining
features of several of the large dinosaurs, with
perhaps a little saber-toothed tiger thrown in.
It's also not too hard to see the early signs of
Mary's future love affair with elephants.
