Sheep (8" x 9") - Sheep were everywhere in the
countryside around Carthage.  Mary spent many hours
taking walks and filling sketch pads, and thus had ample
material for creating this mosaic of a sheep's head.  Notice
how Mary was able to reproduce the complex texture of the wool by
varying the shape and color shades of the stones she used.
