Punic Sun God (25" x 30", oil on
plaster) - Surrounded by Roman ruins in
Carthage, Mary felt strongly the thousands of
years of human presence in the crumbled stone
and mortar around her.
"I worked from sketches from statues of heads
in the Punic graveyard across from our house
in Carthage. Actually the Punics didn't
make faces, come to think of it. It was
the Romans. But this was something I
dreamed up..."
