Beetle - Mary did a number of paintings like this one (see also Pregnant Cat and Large Cat),
where she rolled out two layers of contrasting color and then scraped
with a razor blade to make an image. Halfway between painting and
sketching,
this approach appealed to her because it was relatively easy and yet
allowed much room for expression. She used this technique to
create the cover art for one of David's books, The Roots of Consciousness.
